At Trinseo, our team is dedicated to sustainable and responsible operations – and the recent renewal of our longstanding partnership with the Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority underscores our commitment.

Using LOMAX™ Technology, Trinseo is reducing its reliance on fossil fuels by capturing emissions from the Dalton-Whitfield Landfill and diverting them to power the production of high-performing latex binders at its Dalton, Georgia, facility. These latex binders are found in products intrinsic to everyday lives – such as carpet backing, paper coatings, and more – and can now be created with a lower environmental impact.

This innovative partnership builds on Trinseo’s pledge to drive sustainable development through cutting-edge material solutions. Our LOMAX™ Technology sets the stage for innovation across the value chain, demonstrating how unique solutions like this can help industry players operate more sustainably while benefitting our communities.

Trinseo’s LOMAX™ Technology is crucial to helping achieve our 2030 Sustainability Goals while also reducing our environmental impact on our local communities.

Powering Production with LOMAX™ Technology

Trinseo first partnered with the Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority in 2006 and launched our LOMAX™ Technology in 2008 to reduce our combined carbon emissions. Working together, we reclaimed methane and carbon dioxide emissions from the landfill that would otherwise end up in the community.

Understanding the importance of this partnership, Trinseo made a significant investment in 2024 to upgrade the emissions-diversion technology to continue our ability to power more sustainable production. The newly updated LOMAX™ Technology continues to capture gases created by landfill waste as it undergoes anaerobic decomposition and transforms it into steam energy that our Dalton plant can harness.

As a result, latex binders created by LOMAX™ Technology are not only more environmentally friendly but also offer the same high-performance characteristics as conventional latex.

Reaching Our Sustainability Goals

Trinseo’s LOMAX™ Technology brings us one step closer to achieving our goal of reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 35% by 2035. Using this technology, Trinseo can reduce its reliance on fossil-based resources as it reclaims emissions that would otherwise end up in the community.

LOMAX™ Technology can also support our customers throughout their sustainability journey. As Trinseo enhances the sustainability of our operations and improves our Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions, customers along our value chain can better their Scope 3 emissions. Thanks to LOMAX™ Technology, we can continue to improve our carbon footprint.

Trinseo’s extended partnership with the Dalton-Whitfield landfill will benefit our company, the Dalton community, and Trinseo customers for years to come as we repurpose emissions for use in manufacturing.

We can continue to rely on LOMAX™ Technology to create more sustainably advantaged latex products that maintain the performance needed for applications intrinsic to our daily lives. The innovative LOMAX™ Technology only bolsters our commitment to being a responsible materials provider.
